When I began this class at the opening of the 2020 new year, I didn’t know what to expect, but I knew great things were coming. These four weeks have been an exhilarating experience because I’ve learned new things; more than I could have ever imagined. My writing, before taking this class, and even before pursuing this degree was more along the lines of novel/novella, short stories, and poetry. However, since embracing the new experiences and writing/creating webisodes, not only am I ready to delve into more webisode creations, but also playwriting and wherever this writing journey will take me. For, infinity is where I’m hoping my writing will go.
My goals as a writer were initially just to be a published author. I had not put much more thought into anything else because I didn’t know how far writing could take me. I played around with some things in the past and put them to the side as life got in the way. I had not researched the full plethora of the writing spectrum before this degree. Pursuing this degree has opened my eyes and my level of thinking to more than the limits/goals I had pre-established for myself. I’m glad I decided to pursue and to continue pursuing it.
I began this process with a few obstacles in my way and was determined to not allow my current circumstances to affect my future results. With these obstacles still present, as they will be, I have decided to work as hard as I can to continue to press forward and not give up. Achieving is the goal and failure is not an option. Stumbling blocks will come and go, but how we deal with them determines the nature of the course. One of my favorite quotes by Eleanor Roosevelt states, “No one can make you inferior without your consent.” Her quote resonates with me because it reminds me that I can do anything I put my mind to; I can be anyone I choose to be; I can have anything that I want as long as I work hard to maintain it, and I can’t give anyone the power over me to deter me.
Because infinity is my goal, I intend to pursue this deeper writing path. The next step is to continue writing and building strength in writing. Now that I know I have what it takes to succeed in the field, I’m ready to see how far I can go. I desire to write more webisodes, craft plays for production, continue my journey to finish and publish my books, open a theater, and eventually, a publishing company, and continue to teach others to do what they love: impart the knowledge I’ve received to others along the same path as me.
